Leicester on the London 2012 Olympic Torch Route

Leicester has been chosen as one of the locations the Olympic Torch will visit on its tour of the UK. The city is one of only four places in the East Midlands that have been chosen as part of the tour to hold a special evening event – a two hour long staged show, which culminates in the arrival of the torch.

LOCOG launches search for 8000 inspirational Torchbearers

With one year to go until the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has launched the search for 8,000 Torchbearers to carry the Olympic Flame right across the UK with the start of the LOCOG ‘Moment to Shine’ public nomination campaign.

The deadline for nominations is the 29th June 2011

College student launches London 2012 Olympic Torch with Lord Coe

A 16-year-old Loughborough College student had the honour of launching the London 2012 Olympic Torch with Lord Sebastian Coe at St Pancras International Station on Wednesday 8th June.

Jermaine Miles, England under-19s volleyball international has been inspiring schoolchildren for the past year by volunteering with the Loughborough Flames: Lighting the Way project and was invited to help launch the slim-line, gold coloured aluminium torch at a special event in the capital.

London 2012 and Mayor of London rally schools to claim their Ticketshare tickets

London 2012 Chair Lord Sebastian Coe and Mayor of London Boris Johnson have sent out a rallying cry to schools in London and across the UK to ensure they do not miss out on their chance to receive tickets to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Schools need to apply to join the London 2012 Get Set network by 16 December 2011 to be eligible.

National School Sport Week: 27th June – 4th July 2011

Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week is Britain’s biggest celebration of school sport. This exciting initiative uses the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire millions of young people to take part in more sport and physical activity. As an added incentive, this year Lloyds TSB are offering primary schools the chance to win tickets to the London 2012 Games, and are offering secondary schools the chance to carry the Olympic Flame as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

London 2012 announces Paralympic Games ticket prices

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today published its prices for Paralympic Games tickets. In total, approximately two million tickets will go on sale for the Paralympic Games from 9 September 2011.
