The Olympic Flame will visit Leicester,
Leicestershire and Rutland
|

The London 2012
Organising Committee (LOCOG) has revealed the cities, towns and villages on
the route of the Olympic Torch Relay. Between 18 May and 27 July, the
Olympic Flame will come to within just 10 miles of 95% of the population of
the UK, with the flame passing through the city and county on 2nd
and 3rd July 2012.

London 2012 is
seeking Local Leaders
|
|

Good at getting stuff done? Excited about the Games
and want to celebrate? Then London 2012 wants you to be a London 2012 Local
Leader. The ‘Local Leaders’ initiative is an invitation to people across
the UK to take the 2012 Games into their community and create their own
celebrations next year, for the Olympic Torch Relay and other key moments
during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Olympic
Triple Jump Legend visits Leicester and Leicestershire
|
|

One of UK
athletics' all-time greats, Olympic triple jump legend Jonathan Edwards
CBE, visited Leicester and Leicestershire on Wednesday 9th November.
Jonathan visited venues across the city and county to experience firsthand
the work taking place that has been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games.

London 2012 Olympic
Football Tickets
London 2012 organisers have confirmed the dates of the Team GB
football side's group stage fixtures. The men's team are set to appear in
Cardiff, Manchester and London and the women’s team will play in Cardiff
and London. Tickets will go on sale at www.tickets.london2012.com
from Tuesday 29th November
London 2012 Paralympic Tickets
The remaining tickets will go on sale at 1pm on Friday 2nd
December on a first come first served basis. Some
sports such as Paralympic Track Cycling and Wheelchair Rugby have no
further tickets available at this time, but there is still good
availability elsewhere, including for Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball,
Equestrian and Swimming. There is also good availability for ExCeL and
Olympic Park day passes.

London Prepares – Test event tickets go
on sale
|
|

|
The London Prepares series is the official London 2012 sports testing
programme. Tickets for the Gymnastics, Diving and Track Cycling test events
will go on sale on Thursday 17th November. Tickets for
Synchronised Swimming, Hockey, Wheelchair Tennis, Water Polo, Athletics and
Paralympic Athletics will go on at a later date.

Last
chance to join the London 2012 Inspire Programme
|
|

Non-commercial projects and events inspired by
London 2012 have until 1 December 2011 to apply to be an official Inspire
project. Organisations that join the programme will be awarded the
Inspire mark and can use this to promote their project as well as show that
they are part of London 2012. So far, over 200 projects in the East
Midlands have received the coveted Inspire mark.

the 'School Games'. Make sure your school is signed up to the School Games

Soft Touch helps
young film makers seek Olympic Recognition
|
|

|
Young people in
Leicester are seeking support for four short films they have made that
illustrate key Olympic and Paralympic values. The films have been submitted
to the Film Nation Shorts competition that has seen young people around the
country supported in making Olympic-themed films. The ones that prove most
popular with the public and judges will be shown in Olympic Stadiums and
city centre Big Screens.

London 2012 Games Makers – Have you been selected?

LOCOG have now started to offer volunteering roles to
successful applicants, this offer process will continue for a period of
months so don’t panic if you have yet to hear anything. If you have been
interviewed and you have been offered a place, please let us know so that
we can send you more information about the Leicester and
Leicestershire London 2012 Games Maker Grant Scheme.

Sport Makers – Do
you want to volunteer in your local community?
|
|

The
Sport Makers programme will recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports
volunteers aged 16 years and over to organise and lead community sporting
activities across the country.
In
Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland we are looking to recruit over 750
new volunteers to sport, to become 'Sport Makers'. This is your chance to
be part of the Olympic Legacy in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics and
Paralympics and beyond!

Medal
Makers – supporting Team GB and the Japanese Olympic Team
|
|

This
summer both Team GB and the Japanese Olympic Team will be coming to
Loughborough in their preparations for the London Olympics. A unique
volunteering opportunity to support the training camps has arisen at
Loughborough University with both the University and LeicesterShire &
Rutland Sport teaming up to recruit and deploy over 1,000 volunteers to
support the camps.

Help Selina realise her Paralympic Dreams

Selina Litt's
sporting story is an inspiring one. Blind in her right eye and only able to
judge light perception with her left, the 23-year-old from Cosby competes
in the 100 and 200 metres and is ranked number two in Britain for both
events and is currently ranked fifth in the world at long jump. Selina is
determined to compete at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. However, despite
her considerable sporting prowess, Selina's Paralympic dream may not come
true. The talented athlete needs sponsorship to help fund her London
ambitions. Can you help?
